Finding Out

Posted by: | November 26, 2011 | 4 Comments |

Zeus has been part of our family for about 9 years now.  I will always remember when Paul, Alex, Tom and I went to the RSPCA to look for a new family member, the kids and I wanted to take home every dog/pup we saw but we knew that wasn’t possible.  Paul and I knew Zeus was the one when we turned the corner and this happy face looked out at us, I think Zeus also knew he had found his people.

A few weeks ago we received the news that Zeus has, what is probably, bone cancer in his front leg, it was a big shock to us all, we all cried on and off for a few days.

Zeus has now been to see the oncologist who gave us heaps of information and explained our options. We have also looked at the information available on tripawds which has been extremely helpful but also makes me cry, sometimes happy/sad tears all at once.

With the help of Zeus’s vet, the oncologist and tripawds we have made the decision to have Zeus’s leg amputated and to start chemotherapy as we don’t want him to have deal with the pain it must be causing.  Zeus will have his operation on Tuesday 29th November, this is when our courageous little mate will become part of the Tripawds family.

We know the road ahead will have it’s up’s and downs and I’m sure a lot of corners but wouldn’t it be a boring journey if the road was flat and straight.

Good luck with Zeus’ surgery on Tuesday. It’s an incredibley difficult decision to make, but one that is always made out of love. Zeus is lucky to have found his people, and that you always take care of him, even when the going is tough.

My dog, Poko, is 2 weeks post amp, and we’ve made it past the hard parts. Life is returning to normal again. It was the right thing for us, and I’ve never regretted it.

    Best wishes,
    Mira

paws crossed for successful surgery and quick recovery. welcome to our family, it’s nowhere anyone wants to be, but it’s a good place to end up when you find yourself where we are…

somedays, ‘flat and straight’ sounds pretty good….
